Will One Chicago Wednesday time slots change in 2023?
NBC is shaking things up. There were previously reports that the network was considering changing its weekly schedule to allow for more local news, and the discussion led to lots of speculation regarding the fate of particular shows.
Some of these shows were in the One Chicago franchise. If NBC were to shorten its nightly lineup, then it seemed highly likely that they would have move things around on Chicago Wednesday and maybe even move one of the One Chicago shows to another night/time slot.
A time slot move, let alone a night move, can be a death sentence for a show, so OC fans have been waiting to see what would happen to our beloved lineup. Would it be changing come 2023?
What night is Chicago Fire on?
Thankfully, the answer appears to be no. Deadline recently ran a piece detailing the network’s plan for the end of 2022 and beginning of 2023, and one of the most notable takeaways was the fact that all three One Chicago shows will be keeping their established time slots on Wednesday night.
One Chicago-adjacent franchises like Law & Order also lucked out, as the Thursday night lineup consisting of Law & Order, Law & Order: SVU and Law & Order: Organized Crime will also remain untouched.
It may not seem like a big deal in terms of storylines, but the time slot guarantee does actually affect what the future of One Chicago looks like. The fact that all three shows run consecutively on the same night means that it will be able to plan three-part crossover events that can be watched in a single sitting.

If, say Chicago Med or Chicago PD were to be moved to Tuesday or Thursday, then it would not allow for the same scope and breadth of storytelling. Whatever title that would be absent from the Wednesday night schedule would feel out of sync, and therefore wouldn’t work as well.
This is great news for fans who have been waiting for a One Chicago crossover. Derek Haas, who is currently in his final year as Chicago Fire showrunner, has been teasing the possibility of another crossover event for the past year, so hopefully it will happen sooner than later.
