Does Maggie get killed off on Chicago Med? (SPOILERS)
Maggie (Marlyne Barrett) has had a relatively uneventful season on Chicago Med. At least, in comparison to the rest of the Gaffney staff, who have had to contend with death, guilt, and the decision to leave.
Maggie is one of the characters who have stuck it out, and continues to be an anchor for both the hospital and the audience. Unfortunately, the promo for the episode “Everyone’s Fighting a Battle You Know Nothing About” hinted at the fact that she may be in jeopardy.
Here’s what you need to know about Maggie’s brush with death on Chicago Med.
Is Marlyne Barrett leaving Chicago Med?
The aforementioned promo, and the episode “Everyone’s Fighting a Battle You Know Nothing About”, show Maggie going for a joy ride with an old friend, Grant, and while things seem to be going well at first, the two get hit by an oncoming vehicle. How bad did things bet?
Well, thankfully, not too bad. Grant’s leg got banged up in the accident, but Maggie walked away without any major injuries. If anything, it was her ego that was bruised. She’s taken to Gaffney for a check up, and it’s evident that she feels guilt about being in the car with Grant while her husband is unaware.

She told Goodwin (S. Epatha Merkerson) that she’d prefer it if her husband didn’t know about the accident, since nothing serious came of it. Goodwin obliges, and Maggie, regretful over the choice she made, goes on about her business. No shocking death here (thank goodness).
The odds were always going to be low that Maggie would be killed off. She’s a beloved character who has been part of the Med ensemble since its inception, so getting rid of her in such a shocking fashion would upset a lot of the fans. Plus, logistically, it would make sense to keep as many OG cast members as possible right now.
The impending departure of Ethan Choi (Brian Tee) is going to be tough enough to overcome, let alone the writing off of someone like Maggie. There’s also the external factor of Marlyne Barrett’s health to consider. The actress recently confirmed that she’s battling cancer, and has been undergoing chemotherapy treatments as a result.
These treatments have no doubt taken a toll on her, so there was some anticipation that the car accident would sideline her character for a few episodes. This appears to not have been the case, however, and the accident was merely an interesting story arc for Maggie.
