Chicago PD: Upton confirms Halstead marriage drama

Nobody will be shocked to learn that Hailey Upton (Tracy Spiridakos) is going through it on Chicago PD. The character has struggled since the departure of her husband, Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer), and it’s led to a distance, both metaphorical and literal, in their marriage.

Granted, most of the struggles have been through actions rather than words. Upton has not said much about missing Halstead, she’s just thrown herself into her work and made a point of being as busy as possible so she doesn’t have to reflect.

Upton has finally broken her silence, and the admission came during a crucial moment in the episode “Into the Deep.”

Are Upton and Halstead still married on Chicago PD?

Upton, who’s spent the last few weeks pursuing Sean O’Neal (Jefferson White) on the suspicion that he’s trafficking underage girls, decided to go to his home and chat with him. Sean had said previously that he finds Upton to be a “kindred spirit”, and despite Upton’s disgust, she chose to play into his hands.

She opened up about the way she’s been feeling to Sean, and while obviously done with a plan in mind, the things she said felt wholly honest. When asked about her situation with Halstead, she revealed that she hasn’t heard from him much since he left.

"“Can’t get a hold of him”, she admitted. “Can’t go home, either.”"

The two lines are simple, but they reveal a level of self-awareness about the character that we weren’t privy to before. Sean responds to these seemingly admissions, and lets his guard down. Upton’s plan to get close to Sean work out, and she’s able to access his burner phone.

Sean is taken into custody by the end of the episode, and the evidence compiled against him is do damning that his police chief father (Michael Gaston) can only respond with shock. What makes the scene between Upton and Sean go intriguing is that it feels like she’s taking an opportunity to really air out how she feels about her marriage, while still managing to do her job.

We hope that she and Halstead are able to work out a better system, because things do not sound good between them right now.
