Married life has been… rough for Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo) and Severide (Taylor Kinney). The Chicago Fire couple started season 11 with a near-death experience, as they were attacked on their honeymoon, and they’ve struggled to see eye-to-eye in the firehouse.

Now relationship woes are nothing new for Stellaride. There was a good stretch of season 10 where it seemed like the couple were going to call off their engagement, but thankfully they were able to get past those particular issues.

What does the future hold for the first couple of the 51? Are they headed for more strife?

Are Kidd and Severide still together on Chicago Fire?

Well, unfortunately they are. Chicago Fire showrunner Andrea Newman told TV Line that they’ll have to contend with bigger issues than ever on the back end of season 11, and these issues will test their strength as a couple.

"“These two love each other with everything they’ve got, and support each other through thick and thin”, Newman remarked. “But… there will be a few big wrenches thrown their way as the season progresses, so we’ll have to see how they handle those.”"

It’s unclear what these “big wrenches” will be, but it may have to do with starting a family, since we’ve already gotten an episode in which both characters’ feelings about children were made clear. Kidd warmed to a teenage girl who was struggling with her biological mother, whereas Severide preferred to keep his distance and stay professional.

It would be a cagey bit of storytelling to set up this divide early on, and then expand upon it during the second part of season 11. Of course, the big wrenches may include personal and professional topics that we haven’t yet considered, or haven’t been made privy to.

Even with these things in mind, the show won’t break up the Stellaride marriage.

We’ve already been forced to watch as Brett (Kara Killmer) and Casey (Jesse Spencer) split up, and Violet (Hanako Greensmith) lost Hawkins (Jimmy Nicholas), so we’re confident the writers will make a point of keeping them together no matter what they have to go through.
