Chicago Fire bosses teases Severide and Brett ‘connection’
Chicago Fire has gotten to be such a beloved show because of characters like Brett (Kara Killmer) and Severide (Taylor Kinney). They are fleshed-out, complex, and charismatic on their own, as well as great foils for the characters around them.
Despite running in the same circles for years, however, there haven’t been many instances of Brett and Severide interacting. Despite having a shared best friend/spouse in the guise of Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo), the two always seem to be on different ends of a given episode’s story.
Well, it looks like all of that is going to change.
Brett and Severide bond in new Chicago Fire episode
During a recent interview with TV Line, Fire showrunner Andrea Newman revealed that there will finally be a storyline that brings Brett and Severide together. Better yet, the two will actually get to a point of having a strong connection!
For starters, Newman explained why Brett and Severide rarely interact, despite being so close in terms of proximity and profession.
"“Severide plays everything close to the vest, and doesn’t do a lot of ‘hanging out’ with anyone besides Kidd unless he feels a strong reason to”, she noted. “Like he did when he showed up to support Violet in Episode 4 this year.”"

Severide is certainly settling into the role of the 51’s grizzled veteran, so it makes sense. Most of his stories over the past few years have supported by Kidd or other day-one characters like Cruz (Joe Minoso), so it’ll be nice to see him branch out and have to work with someone that he doesn’t often deal with in his daily routine.
"“There is a cool (and shocking!) call coming up later in the season where Brett and Severide need to work together to save someone in a desperate situation”, Newman went on to explain. “And their connection will deepen coming out of that story.”"
It’ll be great to not only see where this connection goes, but how it will inform the way that Brett and Severide interact with each other for the rest of the series.
