Deja vu all over again? Chicago Med dropped a bombshell on viewers in the latest episode, when it revealed that April Sexton (Yaya DaCosta) and Dr. Ethan Choi (Brian Tee) were considering getting back together.

The couple has been through rough times, which directly led to their divorce a few seasons back. They seem to have grown, both apart and separate, however, and have warmed to the idea that maybe things could work if they gave it another shot.

How serious did things get? Well, let’s just say they’re all in.

Are April and Ethan married on Chicago Med?

Sure enough, April and Ethan got engaged to be married a second time. There had been hints in the weeks leading up to “Everyone’s Fighting a Battle You Know Nothing About”, like Ethan’s mention of still having feelings for April, or the fact that they went out and spent the night together, but everything came to a head in the aforementioned episode.

Maggie (Marlyne Barrett) opens a letter and lets out a big smile before she’s even done reading it. She then tracks down Ethan to congratulate him and (lovingly) scorn April for keeping the secret of their new engagement from her.

It’s a wonderful way to reveal the news, and Ethan is subjected to numerous kind words for the rest of the episode. Things take a deeper turn when he grabs a coffee with Dr. Charles (Oliver Platt) and discusses the reasoning behind his decision. Spoiler alert: it’s a doozy.

"“My dad’s passing crystallized a lot for me”, the character admitted. The man I want to be, the life I want to have, and an urgency to get those changes down. It’s probably why things are so easy with April this time around. I guess I got closer to the guy she was holding out for.”"

It’s a heartwarming sentiment, and one that feels just right for Ethan, given the fact that he will be leaving the show in a few episodes. It’ll be sad to see him go, given how foundational he is to Med, but the writers have clearly put a lot of thought into his arc and giving him a proper sendoff. We’re thrilled.
