Kim Burgess (Marina Squerciati) has had a quieter tenure compared to last season of Chicago PD. As we all remember, the officer was shot and nearly killed during the season 9 premiere, and then had to deal with the kidnapping of her daughter towards the finale.

It seems fair that she would have less to contend with in season 10, especially given the stress that peers like Voight (Jason Beghe) and Upton (Tracy Spiridakos) have been going through. This changed, however, in the episode “Under the Skin.”

Burgess was tasked with looking into a cold case involving a serial killer, and the further she looked into it, the more she was forced to evaluate her past and her life in general. What are the repercussions of Burgess’s evaluation going to be? Might she choose to quit the IU?

Is Marina Squerciati leaving Chicago PD?

The question is worth examining due to the fact that Burgess’s lingering trauma over getting shot came to the forefront. It was clear that she was shaky throughout the investigation, to such an extent that Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger) asked if she was okay by the end of the episode.

The character was so affected that she chose not to go home with Ruzek and instead partner with Upton to keep working and gathering evidence in their case. The trauma she’s going through is very understandable, but it could also be something that hampers her performance in the field moving forward.

If she shuts down in the middle of a firefight, who’s to say she couldn’t die or get someone else on the team injured? These questions will no doubt be explored throughout the rest of season 10.

There’s a possibility that Burgess could quit, especially if she’s unable to move past the effects of her shooting, but we’re skeptical of this outcome because the show is still dealing with the exit of one Jay Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer). It would be a shocking development, for sure, but it would also be unwise of the writers to axe another beloved cast member so soon after one of them left.

All things considered, Burgess will stick around. Depending on what she experiences, however, it could be a different Burgess than we’re used to.
