Chicago PD has not taken things lightly in season 10. The presiding theme so far seems to be trauma, as each of the main characters have had to face the mistakes and regrets of their past through whatever case they happen to be investigating.

It’s made for riveting entertainment each week, and it’s distinguished PD from the other One Chicago shows in that it’s had more of a serialized approach to narrative.

The case involving the chief’s son, Sean O’Neal (Jefferson White), has been building up over several episodes and it’ll all come to a head in the mid-season finale.

Chicago PD fall finale will be a ‘heartbreaker’

What’s going to happen? Is the IU going to be able to overcome the efforts of the chief (Michael Gaston) and bring Sean to justice? Is Sean guilty of crimes we haven’t yet uncovered?

Well, all these things will be difficult to determine until the mid-season finale airs on Wednesday, December 7, but PD star Patrick John Flueger has shed some light on the tone of the finale, and what fans can expect when it comes to the emotional side of things.

Flueger told NBC that the IU is definitely right when it comes to pursuing Sean, and that nailing him will be a big affirmation as to the instincts of Upton (Tracy Spiridakos) and the team as a whole.

"“I think it reinforced that both Hailey and the team as a whole—their instincts are often right”, he noted. “It’ll come to climactic and dramatic conclusion in the mid-season finale. I think it definitely tees up a heartbreaker of a mid-season finale.”"

Based on where Upton is at in her life, as well as the traumatic waters that Burgess (Marina Squerciati) just had to wade through with regards to the case in “Under the Skin”, it’ll definitely be nice to see the team pull off a decisive win.

Now whether arresting Sean will lead to issues for them later down the line remains to be seen…
