Is Chicago PD new tonight? (November 23)
Chicago PD is in narrative overdrive during season 10. While there’s still a focus on individual characters from episode to episode, the procedural drama has made a point of building a larger story over the course of its first half.
That story involves Upton (Tracy Spiridakos) and her crusade to put Sean O’Neal (Jefferson White), the son of the new precinct chief (Michael Gaston), behind bars. He’s been behind some harrowing crimes, and the only thing keeping him safe (for the moment, at least), is his familial connection to someone in charge.
The cast and crew haven’t been shy about the fact that this story will get a big boost in the mid season finale. Patrick John Flueger recently told NBC that the episode will be “heartbreaking” and deliver on the arc that’s been built around Upton for weeks.
When will Chicago PD return with new episodes?
Unfortunately, the episode in question will not be airing on Wednesday, November 23. Chicago PD will be taking the week off to make room for NBC’s holiday programming, particularly the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade and a rerun of the SNL Thanksgiving special.
This is nothing new for the network or the show, and has been standard practice for both since the One Chicago franchise came into existence. The downside, however, is that fans will have to wait a little longer than usual to get to the mid season finale. Chicago PD won’t return until Wednesday, December 7, which means it’ll be a multiple-week break.

The synopsis for the upcoming episode reads as follows:
“I think it reinforced that both Hailey and the team as a whole—their instincts are often right”, he noted. “It’ll come to climactic and dramatic conclusion in the mid-season finale. I think it definitely tees up a heartbreaker of a mid-season finale.”
After the December 7 airing, Chicago PD will go back on hiatus for the rest of 2023. Once again, this is pretty standard, though the exact amount of time always fluctuates depending on different variables. PD will resume its normal Wednesday night schedule on January 4.
