Monica Raymund was spectacular on Chicago Fire. Her performance as Gabriela Dawson was one of the strong points of the show during her tenure, and her decision to leave in season 7 was hard on pretty much every fan.

Raymund hasn’t appeared on Fire since season 8, but if her social media is anything to go by, she’s stayed close with the cast and crew regardless. The actress caught fans off guard when she took to Instagram to post an impromptu cast reunion!

Is Gabriela Dawson coming back to Chicago Fire?

She posed alongside former co-stars Jesse Spencer, and Taylor Kinney with the caption “Chicago family reunion.” It’s an incredible sight to see, not only because its been years since we saw this trio together, but because Spencer has always left the show recently, meaning that both sides of the Raymond-Casey romance are firmly in the past.

Granted, Spencer has appeared in sporadic cameo roles since his official departure last season, but it’s still novel to see him sporting longer hair when he had it cut short for the entirety of his run as Casey.

Raymund has stayed busy since leaving Fire, having recently appeared in the romantic comedy Bros and the Starz crime series Hightown, so it’s understandable as to why she hasn’t made a cameo as Dawson in recent seasons.

While the IG photo of the cast back together is a nice hit of nostalgia for the early days of Fire, it also serves as a reminder that Dawson’s return is more unlikely than ever.

Casey was her tether to the rest of Firehouse 51, and with the character gone (let alone, in a complicated dynamic with another woman), there’s not really a good reason for her to travel all the way from Puerto Rico to Chicago to come visit. As it stands, the photo will be as close as we come to a Dawson reunion.
