3 Chicago Fire characters who probably won’t be back in season 11
Chicago Fire has had plenty of deaths over the years. In season 11 alone, we bore witness to the shocking death of Chief Hawkins (Jimmy Nicholas) when he attempted to rescue a civilian from a burning building.
The characters who bite the dust are the one that are guaranteed not to come back. We discussed some of these standouts already, so we thought it best to hash out a trio of characters who could still return, but likely won’t. At least, as far as season 11 is concerned.
Here are the names we came up with:
Is Gabriela Dawson in Chicago Fire season 11?
Gabriela Dawson (Monica Raymund) is a terrific Chicago Fire character whose romance with Matt Casey (Jesse Spencer) was one of the most beloved on the show. Her departure was well-handled, but given that she’s alive, well, and helping those in need in Puerto Rico, the question needs to be asked: is she coming back?
Dawson has already made a cameo appearance, but the reason she did so is the same reason she’s unlikely to appear in season 11. She came back to the Windy City to visit Casey, her former husband, and given that he no longer works at the 51, it would see odd for her to go out of her way yet again.
Is Gianna Mackey in Chicago Fire season 11?
Gianna Mackey (Adriyan Rae) was quickly incorporated into the main cast during season 9, yet was written off in similarly quick fashion only ten episodes in. It was a confusing turn of events for fans who thought she was going to stick around, and according to showrunner Derek Haas, it was not the original plan.
"“Adriyan let us know she had some private reasons to leave Chicago”, he told Us Magazine. “To hear that as a showrunner, you absolutely respect what an actor needs. All I can say is we love her and I know she’s going to be great on some other series.”"

Mackey is still alive and well in the world of One Chicago, but given how little time was given to establish her character, there’s very little reason for her to return.
Is Matt Casey in Chicago Fire season 11?
The character everyone wants to see again. Casey’s departure in season 10 was a tough one to get through, but it was eased by the fact that he made a vocal cameo a few episodes later, and even returned for the season finale. Casey’s tether to the show was through Brett (Kara Killmer) though, and how that the two have broken up, there’s less incentive for him to return.
Don’t get us wrong, Casey is beloved by the rest of the 51, but not having the Brett connection makes his return (so soon after he left, no less) feel less significant. We’re likely to see Casey again, but given the current state of things with Brett, we’re confident it’s not going to be in season 11.
