Singer and TV star [REDACTED] joins Chicago Fire cast

Chicago Fire has a seemingly endless supply of aces up its sleeve. The firefighting drama has teased some major developments between Severide (Taylor Kinney) and Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo) in the mid-season finale, and now it seems, there will be a new character thrown into the mix.

Little is known about this character, including her name and her connection to the larger narrative of the show, but we know who will be playing her: Jana Kramer.

Who does Jana Kramer play on Chicago Fire?

Kramer is a multifaceted entertainer who has starred on One Tree Hill and Dancing with the Stars, in addition to having a successful career as a singer-songwriter. Her singles “Why You Wanna” and “I Got the Boy” were both Top 10 hits on the country charts.

It’s quite the pull for Chicago Fire, who generally casts up-and-coming or relatively unknown actors for recurring roles. There was never an official announcement made for Kramer’s casting, which makes the reveal all the more interesting.

It’s unclear whether the element of surprise is necessary for grabbing fans’ attention or preserving whatever tricks Kramer’s character has up her sleeve. Regardless, the actress posted several pics from the Chicago Fire set on Instagram.

“Instagram VS reality”, she wrote. “So much fun filming Chicago fire. The kindest crew and cast around!” The pics in question include one of Kramer and Taylor Kinney posing, then two others of them clowning around and laughing.

Kramer also posted several behind-the-scenes videos on her Instagram story. These videos also include Kinney, which leads us to believe that most of her character’s scenes are with Severide.

While nothing has yet been confirmed, Kramer floated the possibility that she will be playing an insurance agent who drops by the 51. The name “Melissa Keating” is mentioned in the IG story, but it’s unclear whether this will turn out to be accurate. Either way, we’re curious to see where things go and how Kramer’s character impacts the rest of season 11!
