Heading into the final episode of Chicago Fire season 11, it was revealed via the finale synopsis that Herrmann encounters a psychic with a grave warning on a call. The warning had many worried that something might happen to Cindy. What we never expected was that the message from the psychic would actually end up being connected to Mouch!

Warning: Chicago Fire finale spoilers ahead.

During a call, the 51 team comes under fire — literally — as gunmen open fire on the team during an attempted terrorist attack. It seems like everyone makes it out unscathed, but after the dust settles we discover Mouch has been shot!

He’s quickly raced to the hospital and it seems like Mouch is going to survive, but then things take a grave turn.

Nobody has to be told about the shock and devastation that rang out when Evan Hawkins (Jimmy Nicholas) was killed on the job. It seemingly came out of nowhere and fractured what had been a wonderful romance between Hawkins and Violet (Hanako Greensmith). Fire was smart to hold off on a death of that magnitude in the seasons leading up to this one because it made the impact of Hawkins’s death hit that much harder.

So what are the chances they do something similar with Mouch?

Is Mouch leaving Chicago Fire?

After Mouch was shot, he was raced to the hospital as the rest of 51 was held for questioning after the attack. When Boden returned to 51, he revealed that Mouch was in stable condition at Med and that it turned out he wasn’t shot but rather hit with a piece of shrapnel. It seemed like he was out of the woods until the final moments of the episode brought about a shocking twist!

While visiting Mouch at the hospital, Herrmann notices his friend isn’t looking good which is when he notices blood seeping through the hospital blanket. As he flips over the cover, he discovers Mouch’s wound has reopened and is bleeding badly. In a matter of moments, Mouch passes out and begins to flatline as Herrmann calls for help.

Given Chicago Fire has a history of killing off characters, often in shocking fashion, there is no telling whether Mouch is going to actually die or if he’ll pull through. As such, it’s going to be a long hiatus as we wait for confirmation on what the future holds for Mouch.
