They made it. After years of being together, breaking up, and reconciling, April Sexton (Yaya DaCosta) and Dr. Ethan Choi (Brian Tee) are getting married.

The Chicago Med characters are getting hitched in the fall finale, “This Could Be the Start of Something New”, and we couldn’t imagine a more fitting title.

April and Ethan have had their fair share of troubles in the past, but it was clear from the moment they reconnected in season 8 that things had changed. Both characters had matured since their split, and had come to grips with what went wrong.

This is especially true with Ethan, who told Daniel Charles (Oliver Platt) that the passing of his father played a big role in his desire to start a new chapter of his life.

In the scenes leading up to the wedding, there’s some tough discussions between April and Ethan. The former is hit with a wave of anxiety over whether she will be able to live up to the person that Ethan wants her to be, and after some assurance, the couple are ready to take this next step.

The ceremony itself comes at the tail end of the episode, and it’s everything Chicago Med fans have hoped for. The couple exchanges vows lovingly, and we get cutaway shots to the rest of the Gaffney family, including Charles, Sharon Goodwin (S. Epatha Merkerson) and Will Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss).

It’s undeniably sad to see two beloved characters leave Med, but we couldn’t have asked for a more heartwarming sendoff. Both April and Ethan have had their share of struggles over the years and getting to see them prevail is an absolute treat.

They will be sticking around in the Windy City, so fingers crossed we will get to see them make cameos at some point down the line!
