Chicago Fire came with the heat in the fall finale. We knew that things were going to get serious for Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo), but we didn’t know how it was going to play out, and how the episode was going to leave us with so many questions.

The bulk of the episode dealt with 51 politics and a complaint filed against the increasingly likable Carver (Jake Lockett), and the red tape from the situation actually led to Stella and Carver getting closer than they were before.

It was partially this closeness that led Stella to choose him when she decided to go into a house and attempt to remove a live explosive that had been lodged inside an officer’s leg. She managed to do so, but it still went off, and she and Carver had just enough time to shield themselves behind a table.

What happened to Stella Kidd on Chicago Fire?

We’re not saying that Stella and Carver are dead or anything, but we’d be surprised if they weren’t at least injured or shaken up by the incident. Chicago Fire showrunners Andrea Newman & Derek Haas played any info regarding the aftermath of the explosion close to the chest, but they did tell Entertainment Tonight some crucial details about what the explosive finale will lead to in 2023.

For one, it highlights Stella’s growth as a leader, and her ability to reconcile her negative feelings towards someone like Carver for the greater good. In the past, Haas opines, Stella may not have put herself in such a dangerous situation, but now, as a lieutenant, she puts the lives of others before her own.

While this speaks positively of Stella, it will have some adverse effects on Carver, Severide and the rest of the 51 team. These effects will be felt, strongly, throughout the rest of season 11:

"“The incident has repercussions for everybody involved going forward. It’s going to change some things”, Newman added. “Severide is definitely going to probably be the most impacted and we’ll see the fallout on him going forward.”"
