Jay Halstead will always be near and dear to our hearts. He was a Chicago PD centerpiece from the very start, and served as a mentor for so many of the characters who came onboard in his wake.

One such character was Hailey Upton, the cop who joined the IU in season 4 and would go on to become his wife in season 9. Their chemistry was evident from day one, and the actors who play them, Jesse Lee Soffer and Tracy Spiridakos, have remained close despite the former having left the show.

Spiridakos, who regularly snaps photos of herself on the Chicago PD set, recently paid tribute to her onscreen husband with a throwback post.

The actress posted a photo with Soffer on what was her very first day of shooting in 2017. Both her and Soffer and smiling from ear-to-ear, and the caption that accompanies the photo reads:

"“Okay, you guys asked for a picture of Halstead so here it is! An oldie but a goodie. I think this was one of my first days on set, outside the bank where Upton makes her first appearance.”"

It’s great to see any throwback pics of the PD cast, given that they’ve been at it for a decade now, but seeing Spiridakos and Soffer is particularly impactful for fans who have been following along in season 10. It has not been an easy stretch for their respective characters, given that Halstead has quit the force and relocated to Central America to fend off drug cartels.

Upton has been forthright about the fact that Halstead hasn’t been communicating with her as much as she was hoping, and the emotional toll that his absence (or worse, his abandonment) has taken on her. It definitely feels deliberate on the part of the PD writing team, given how much the characters mean to fans, but it doesn’t make it any easier to watch.

On the bright side, Soffer will be directing an episode in season 10, so we’re expecting to see more candid and charming photos alongside Spiridakos in the coming weeks.
