Kim Burgess has been through a lot in the last year. The Chicago PD veteran was nearly killed, dragged into a serial killer investigation, and forced to solve the kidnapping of her adopted kid, Makayla (Ramona Edith Williams). It’s not been easy, and the fact that she’s had less screen time throughout season 10 means she’s had a chance to take a break from the mayhem.

Fans are starting to worry, though. Kim hasn’t yet dealt with the psychological toll that all of these incidents have taken on her, and there’s a feeling among parts of the One Chicago faithful that the character is going to get killed off.

Did Kim Burgess get killed on Chicago PD?

It would certainly be shocking. Kim was on the cusp of death during the season 9 premiere, so from a storytelling perspective, we fear that putting her in harm’s way again, so soon after it happened, would cheapen the initial storyline.

There’s also the fact that Kim still has a lot of unresolved issues with Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger). The two of them have behaved cordially with one another in recent episodes, but it’s clear they aren’t as close as they once were.

Chicago PD showrunner Gwen Sigan told TV Line that the disconnect between the two characters will be addressed in season 10. She singled out the fact that communication and the willingness to be vulnerable on Kim’s part is what will eventually lead to a breakthrough.

"“He’s like her partner in life, and when you get out of some of that trauma, it’s about forming new attachments again”, she noted. “So we’ll get to see that she can have some more strength in those relationships and clarity, and how much they’ve been there for her.”"

The fact that Sigan is comfortable discussing long term plans regarding Kim’s arc is further proof that the character will not be meeting an untimely demise. She will be sticking around for the long haul, and hopefully be happier as a result.
