3 Chicago Med characters we might say goodbye to in 2023
Chicago Med has said goodbye to a lot of beloved characters over the last year. The fall finale was a prime example of this trend, as the Gaffney Medical staff got together to send off Dr. Ethan Choi (Brian Tee) and April Sexton (Yaya DaCosta) after their wedding.
It’s safe to assume that Med will continue to part ways with characters and introduce newcomers, so we thought it best to ring in the holidays with a breakdown of which characters are most likely to leave Gaffney come 2023.
Is Maggie Lockwood leaving Chicago Med?
Maggie Lockwood (Marlyne Barrett) ended the fall finale in a bad place. Because of her decision to spend time with her ex, Grant (Wayne T. Carr), and her subsequent decision to hide it, her husband Ben Campbell (Charles Malik Whitfied) has decided that he needs some space. The decision clearly affected her, and is likely to carry on into 2023.
It’s possible that Maggie will take time away from Gaffney to focus on her personal life in the coming season. Especially when you take into account that Marlyne Barrett is still undergoing chemotherapy treatments behind the scenes. Some time off may be a necessity depending on Barrett’s condition.
Is Jack Dayton leaving Chicago Med?
Jack Dayton (Sasha Roiz) is a newcomer but he’s quickly made his presence felt. He now has controlling interest in Gaffney Medical Center, which means he can make changes and implement tech that he feels improves the medical experience for patients. Goodwin (S. Epatha Merkerson) is clearly not thrilled by the idea.

While Dayton seems to be set up as a sort of passive antagonist for 2023, the way he’s been set up thus far suggests that he won’t be sticking around past the resolution of his arc. He’s going to pose a threat, but most likely be dealt with by our committed cast of main characters.
Is Dr. Dean Archer leaving Chicago Med?
Dean Archer (Steven Weber) was recently promoted to main cast member, which makes sense given the amount of turnover there’s been and the fact that he’s endeared himself to fans (even with a grumpy demeanor). The revelation that Archer is suffering from, however, and may have to go on dialysis if things don’t improve, suggests that he may not be around for much longer.
It’s too early to tell if Archer’s health struggles will be for a storyline or a way of writing his character off the show (there’s also some romance rumors involving him and Hannah Asher). Regardless, gearing up for his potential exit might be a good idea.
