Brian Tee discusses his Chicago Med exit: ‘It’s been amazing’
Ethan Choi was an essential part of Chicago Med. He always did right by his patients, and when things became difficult, or his life was put in danger, he would stick to his morals and stand his ground.
It’s this continued heroism that makes his departure in the fall finale so heartbreaking. It’s great to see him ride off into the sunset with April (Yaya DaCosta), but Chicago Med is going to take some getting used to without him around.
Brian Tee, the actor who plays Choi, feels similarly, and he shared a video message shortly before he wrapped shooting on the fall finale.
Is Brian Tee still on Chicago Med?
In the video, Tee can be seen wearing his trademark maroon scrubs. He talks about the journey that Choi has taken since season 1, and how the lesson he took away from the character was to constantly strive to be a better person.
“His journey has been kind of amazing”, the actor reasoned. “He’s been through the ups and downs, and a lot of hardships as I have in my career, and he’s kind of come out the other side a better human being.”
As with the statement above, Tee aligns Choi’s experiences with his own, and theorizes that both have informed one another over the course of the last eight seasons. “I’m better for the people around me”, he adds. “And I feel like right now, that is the trajectory with which Ethan is going.”
It’s nice to see that Choi has been as important to the actor’s life as he has been for fans of the show, and it’s a worthy condolence prize to know that he will stick around in a behind the scenes capacity.
According to Deadline, Tee will be directing select episodes of Chicago Med, which means he will continue to play a part in shaping the One Chicago family. Fingers crossed that his involvement will lead to a Choi cameo at some point in the future.
