Will Ethan Choi return to Chicago Med in 2023?

Dr. Ethan Choi (Brian Tee) has left the building. After years of improving lives and dealing with various dramas, the character has moved on to another chapter in his life. The Chicago Med fall finale was a worthy sendoff for him and his wife, April Sexton (Yaya DaCosta).

Choi’s exit seems pretty concrete, but there are a few reasons he may not be gone for as long as initially thought. We decided to comb through these reasons, in an effort to gage whether or not we can expect to see the character pop up in 2023.

Will Brian Tee return to Chicago Med in 2023?

For starters, Choi is going to remain in Chicago. Often times, when characters are written out of the show, they are relocated to another city so there’s no chance of running into them or having to stretch credulity as to why they don’t stay in touch with the staff.

Choi and April are going to be treating those less fortunate in the greater Chicago area, which means it would be totally plausible for him to drop by Gaffney Medical Center for a cameo or to support a former co-worker of his.

The other big piece of evidence to suggest that Choi may reappear is the the announcement that Brian Tee will be directing future episodes of Chicago Med. It’s a cool way to keep the actor in the One Chicago family, and it means he will still be on the set on a semi-regular basis.

If he’s already in the mix, it wouldn’t be a stretch to envision him walking onto the set and helping Goodwin (S. Epatha Merkerson) or Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss) out of a tough situation or having to rush a patient he treated on his own into Gaffney for an emergency surgery.

There are lots of possibilities on the table, and we have our fingers crossed that we will get a Choi sighting at some point in the near future.
