Leading up to the Chicago Fire fall finale, NBC promised a returning face would be making their way back to town. What we never expected was that the returning character would be one who we had hoped to have seen the last of and not someone we had been hoping to see back in the Windy City.

We’re, of course, referring to Emma Jacobs who made a shocking return in the fall finale after an IAD investigation into Carver’s actions taken during a call. In the episode, Emma returned to lead the investigation as it was revealed she had joined IAD after being ousted at 51.

While Emma did not derail Carver’s career and cleared his name, her return was one that left a very poor taste in the mouths of fans who couldn’t believe the directions the writers took.

“This return has me sick to my stomach. And not in a good way. What a decision, ugh,” wrote one clearly disgusted fan.

“So, you separate Brettsey, you kill Hawkins but you bring Emma, a character that NOBODY wanted to see again. Very good decisions.” added another fan who clearly was not a fan of NBC’s decision.

Will Emma be back on Chicago Fire?

While the fans seem to be in agreement when it comes to not wanting to see more of Emma on Chicago Fire, the powers that be seem to have other plans in place. Although it’s unclear how many episodes we might see Emma back in when the show returns, it seems her appearance in the fall finale wasn’t a one-off.

In the synopsis for episode 10, Emma is name-dropped as it’s teased that “Violet is determined to take Emma down.” It seems to suggest Emma will be popping up again, which was hinted at in the fall finale when she seemed to make it clear to Violet that she’d see her around.

The Chicago Fire writers have been known to bring in villainous characters such as Emma as a foil across multiple episodes so we could definitely see her sticking around for a handful of episodes this season. Let’s just hope it’s not too many episodes and that she’ll finally get what’s coming to her when the time comes for her arc to end.
