Nick Gehlfuss posts musical tribute to Jesse Lee Soffer on IG
Once brothers, always brothers. Jay and Will Halstead represented one of the coolest and most subtle dynamics in the entire One Chicago franchise, and a lot of it came down to the fact that the two actors playing them, Jesse Lee Soffer and Nick Gehlfuss, were actually friends.
The actors have remained tight since Soffer departed Chicago PD, and Gehlfuss, a fixture on Chicago Med, decided to pay tribute to his onscreen brother by sending him a recording of an original song.

Soffer posted the recording on his Instagram with the caption: “Take ten seconds and listen to Nicky. It’ll warm your heart ❤️ Love you bro.”
The lyrics are comical and charming, making reference to Soffer being “the best fake brother” that someone could ask for, and poking fun at the fact that Gehlfuss is a “real fake doctor” on Med. The latter has always been the more comedically inclined of the two Halsteads, with Jay being more of the straight man, so it makes sense that such a silly video would come from him.

The full lyrics read as follows:
“You’ve been a great fake brother to a real fake doctor. Yes, the best fake brother a guy could ask for. Maybe years down the road we could change our roles and play real lovers. So long, my great fake favorite brother.”
Gehlfuss then ends with the video by a sincere, “Love you, I mean it.”
It’s great to see the One Chicago cast members continuing to support one another, even after some of them have moved on from the franchise. Technically, Soffer is still in the mix as a PD director, but his onscreen departure has been tough on fans. This video makes it a little easier.
