Chicago PD has always been good at introducing new characters. Whether they stay with the IU for good or play a supporting role over the course of a season-long arc, the writing team has done a good job of keeping things interesting.

The big casting story of season 10 has been, of course, the departure of Jesse Lee Soffer, who has decided to focus on directing. He crucial role in the IU has been filled by the character Dante Torres (Benjamin Levy Aguilar), but it looks as though PD is bringing another newcomer into the mix.

Here’s what we know about the character and his future.

Who is Detective Borkowski on Chicago PD?

The character in question is named Borkowski, and he’s a Chicago detective who’s been friends with Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger) for several years. He’s going to be introduced in the first new PD episode of 2023, where he will be tasked with helping the team solve a string of home invasions.

The details surrounding Borkowski have been kept under wraps, which include the identity of the actor playing him. This is nothing new for PD, as the show often brings famous character actors in to the fold to keep the main cast members on their toes.

The introduction of Borkowski appears similar to that of Sal Ortiz (Ricardo Chavira), a cop who was introduced in season 9 as, you guessed it, an old friend of Ruzek’s. Ortiz proved to be something of a fraud, though, as he not only jeopardized Ruzek’s life during a shootout, but committed several criminal acts in an effort to pay for his wife’s medical bills.

Because the Ortiz storyline is so recent, we doubt that the Chicago PD writers would run back the same betrayal. It’s more likely that Borkowski will be posed as a genuine help to the IU, and will be a good sounding board for Ruzek, who has grown increasingly disillusioned with his career path.

If fans respond positively to the character, there’s a good chance that Borkowski will be incorporated into future episodes, and perhaps even be sworn in as a member of the IU.

We’ll find out when we meet him.
