One Chicago is famed for its crossover moments. Like any shared universe, the appeal of each title is in getting to see how each of them interact, and how characters from one show could appear on an other at seemingly any given time. Chicago Med has done this more than most, since the other two titles in the franchise, Fire and PD, often have to bring patients to the hospital.

Chicago Med showrunners Diane Frolov and Andrew Schneider recently sat down for an interview with TV Line, and discussed a number of possibilities for the back end of season 8. There are plot threads involving the future of Gaffney Medical Center, the future of different people’s careers, and now, the future of the show’s crossovers with PD.

Will there be a One Chicago crossover in 2023?

While there are lots of fun directions to go in with Med and PD crossovers, the most poignant is obviously going to be between Will Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss) and Hailey Upton (Tracy Spiridakos). Both of them had to deal with the departure of Jay Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer), who is both Will’s brother and Hailey’s husband.

While there was a meaningful goodbye between Hailey and Jay, Will never got a chance to have a proper sendoff to his brother onscreen. Med hasn’t dedicated much time to how the doctor feels about his brother leaving Chicago (seemingly, for good), so there’s a lot to dig into there, and time with Hailey would be a perfect way to do it.

Hailey’s character arc since Jay left has been exclusively about dealing with the loss, so it would be an interesting clash of methods if her and Will were to cross paths and discuss their feelings since Jay moved.

When asked about the possibility of seeing Will and Hailey meet up, Schneider played coy. “We haven’t put that in yet, but it’s always possible”, he responded. “We’d love to have these crossover moments.”

While there isn’t much in terms of spoilers, it’s good to know that this particular character dynamic is on the minds of the writers and showrunners. Here’s hoping it manifests in some exciting crossover material sooner than later.
