Emma Jacobs (Caitlin Carver) is bad news. We knew it from the moment she was introduced in season 10, and we knew it when she tried to blackmail Violet (Hanako Greensmith) and take over her job. As far as Chicago Fire antagonists go, she’s one of the most obvious.

That being said, her return has left us scratching our head. It seemed as though she had turned over a new leaf when she let Carver (Jake Lockett) off with a warning after he got into it with a civilian. A brief, tense exchange with Violet quickly confirmed what we believed all along, though: she’s still got revenge in mind.

Here’s what we know about Jacobs and her future on Chicago Fire.

Is Caitlin Carver still on Chicago Fire?

Violet was understandably annoyed by the fact that Jacobs still works for the fire department, and is arguably doing better professionally than she was at the 51. Given how callously Jacobs treated Hawkins (Jimmy Nicholas) before his death, it’s safe to assume that Violet will never completely forgive her.

Unfortunately, the disdain has now put her in Jacobs’s crosshairs. In the episode “Something for the Pain”, Violet tries to go to Jacobs’s superiors and complain about her past, but it was quickly established that the former had no evidence to prove it. The complaint was dismissed outright, and Jacobs told Violet that she better watch her back.

“I did you a favor”, Jacobs noted. “We were even. But now…”

This chilling warning definitely has Violet in fear, and she later told Brett (Kara Killmer) that she’ll be having to look over her shoulder for the rest of her career.

Expect to see Jacobs regularly throughout season 11, rarely commanding the spotlight but always present, taunting Violet with the possibility of revenge. Showrunner Derek Haas didn’t mince any words when he told NBC Insider what to expect:

“Violet pokes the wrong bear, and now that bear has teeth and claws more than she had before”, he teased. “And it’s ‘gonna be a pretty gruesome mauling that’s ‘gonna happen at Firehouse 51.”

We hope Violet is prepared.
