Chicago Fire and the One Chicago shows could be renewed this weekend
By Cody Schultz
For the last several years, One Chicago fans have not had to worry about Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, and Chicago PD‘s futures with the network. This is because, in 2020, NBC renewed all three One Chicago shows for three seasons which ensured they’d continue through the 2022-23 season.
It was a welcome change of pace for fans and helped the shows to take creative risks. In knowing the shows would be coming back, the creative team was able to end their seasons with big cliffhangers knowing they’d have the chance to see them through the following season.
Knowing the shows had been renewed also made it easy for fans to remain invested in the shows without any fear of them coming to a sudden end. Perhaps that’s why the shows have continued to rank among NBC’s most-watched shows, as fans were able to fully invest in the shows knowing they had bright futures ahead still.
Has NBC renewed Chicago Fire and the One Chicago shows yet?
After handing out the three-season renewals in 2020, the One Chicago shows have not been in any danger for a few years. However, the 2022-23 season, marked the final season in the shows’ multi-season renewals. This means that Chicago Fire, Chicago PD, and Chicago Med are all on the bubble and have not yet been renewed by NBC.

Now, this isn’t exactly a reason to panic. It’s not uncommon for networks to wait until a few months into the season to begin handing out renewal orders to its returning shows. So while it might be disappointing that NBC hasn’t yet handed out renewals to its One Chicago shows, there isn’t room for concern for fans. In fact, renewals could be coming as soon as this week!
Could NBC renew the One Chicago shows at its TCA presentation?
On Sunday, Jan. 15, NBCUniversal will host its Winter Television Critics Association Presentation which means we could be in store for some exciting announcements across the day. It was at the network’s 2020 winter TCA panel that NBC handed out its three-season renewals to the One Chicago shows, which means we could see Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, and Chicago PD renewed at this year’s TCA event!
It would make sense for NBC to hand out renewals for the three shows at the TCA event as it did back in 2020. What would be interesting would be to see if the network would opt to renew the shows for one season or hand out another multi-season order.
Considering the success the shows continue to have, a multi-season order is not out of the question. And a multi-season order would help the network lock the three shows down for another few seasons, and give fans a reason to stick with the shows in knowing they wouldn’t be going anywhere for at least a few years.
