Chicago Fire has been an institution on NBC. The firefighting drama has been one of the network’s top shows for over a decade, giving us countless indelible moments and beloved characters. As of right now, though, the show has not been renewed.

Chicago Fire was last renewed in 2020, when NBC ordered three additional seasons in bulk. The same order was applied to the other two shows in the One Chicago franchise, Med and PD. Is the network going to do the same one Fire wraps up its eleventh season? Is there a chance the show will be cancelled?

Let’s investigate.

Is Chicago Fire renewed for season 12?

The bad news thus far is that Fire has not yet been renewed. It’s been a point of stress for some fans throughout season 11, and rightfully so. TV has seen some major changes in recent years, and that includes the cancellation of shows that were previously cultural juggernauts. Take, for example, Westworld. The science fiction drama was a smash out the gate, but HBO decided to shut down production just before the final season began.

Fortunately, there’s a lot more good news for One Chicago than there is bad. For one, fans won’t have to wait much longer to find out what’s going to happen. NBC will host the Winter Television Critics Association Presentation on Sunday, January 15, which coincides with the confirmation of several new shows in the new year.

It was at this same event in 2020 winter that NBC announced the three-season renewals for the One Chicago shows, so there’s an excellent chance that we could get the official ruling on whether Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, and Chicago PD are coming back for more seasons.

The other good news is that Fire hasn’t waned in the ratings. Despite being in its eleventh season, the show continues to be one of NBC’s most consistently viewed shows. Fire is the biggest hit of the three One Chicago franchise, and a big part of why the network consistently finishes ahead of peers like Fox and CBS. It would be shocking to see the plug pulled on such a successful project.
