Is Chicago PD going to be cancelled in 2023?

Chicago PD has taken its bumps and bruises in season 10. Despite crossing the decade mark, the show did lose one of its flagship characters in Jay Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer). The arcs that have resulted from this exit have been fascinating, but it was a bitter pill to swallow nonetheless.

As PD heads into the second half of season 10, fans have begun to turn their attention to the show’s future. Namely, the fact that NBC hasn’t renewed it for additional seasons. Is the police drama headed for cancellation or will it be picked up for another year?

Is Chicago PD coming back for season 11?

As was previously stated in the Chicago Fire renewal piece, PD fans will likely be getting an answer to their question soon. NBC  will be hosting the Winter Television Critics Association Presentation on Sunday, January 15, which is an event that historically comes with lots of TV show renewals.

All three One Chicago shows were renewed at the event in 2020, so the odds are good that we will be coming out of Sunday will a concrete answer as to the franchise’s fate. The odds that it will be good news? In a word: very good.

Chicago PD has been a solid ratings draw for ten years now, and despite the cast changes and bleak subject matter that have permeated the recent episodes, it continues to draw a strong audience. It has distinguished itself from Med and Fire through its aforementioned bleakness, leading to it arguably being the best standalone title in 2022.

The numbers have remained high, and NBC knows the importance of brands and branding. One Chicago is one of their most valuable properties, and part of the draw for audiences is seeing all three shows and how they intertwine. Cancelling one would severely weaken the other two, so we’re confident that Chicago PD will be renewed for more seasons.
