Chicago Fire has never been shy about the toll that the job takes on personal relationships. We’ve seen several marriages and romances fall apart over the years, and based on comments made by showrunner Andrea Newman, Severide (Taylor Kinney) and Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo) are not exempt.

The couple are headed for some rocky waters in season 11, as evidenced by the recent episode “How Does It End?” They disagreed over the handling of a particular situation in the field, and by the time they got home, Kidd suggested that maybe they should work separate.

It was a devastating thing to hear, and Newman warned viewers that there’s still lots of issues to work through before its smooth sailing for Stellaride.

Are Severide and Kidd still together on Chicago Fire?

During a recent interview with NBC, the showrunner said that emotional “bumps” were going to be coming up, especially when some skeletons from Kidd’s closet resurface. “In the next couple of episodes, the strength of their relationship will be tested as a revelation about Kidd’s past in the CFD comes to light”, she revealed.

While it’s unclear what the revelation will be, there’s a decent chance that it will involve Carver (Jake Lockett). While the two have gotten close in recent episodes, things were undeniably tense between them, and the incident that causes Kidd to come under fire may have to do with that initial tension.

Newman kept the specifics of Kidd’s future under wraps, but she did say that Severide and Kidd still love each over very much, and are primed to get through whatever drama gets thrown their way.

"“Severide and Kidd are about as in love as two people can be, but that doesn’t mean there won’t be bumps and challenges”, she added. “Especially because they work together in such a high pressure environment.”"

It’ll be tough to watch, especially given how recently Severide and Kidd got married, but there has already been little hints throughout season 11 that hint at this tension. Granted, we’re coming off of a very nice exchange between the couple in the hospital (following Kidd’s surgery), so its clear the writers want to keep us all on our toes.
