NBC’s latest schedule update is bad news for Chicago Fire and One Chicago fans

NBC has updated its schedule for the upcoming weeks and it seems Chicago Fire and the One Chicago shows will be taking a longer break than expected.

Following the Jan. 18 episodes of Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, and Chicago PD, NBC aired promos for the shows’ upcoming episodes which teased a break was coming. In the promos, it was teased that the next new episodes would arrive on Wednesday, Feb. 8; however, a tweet posted to the One Chicago Twitter account instead teased the shows would be returning on Feb. 15.

The varying dates in the promos and on social media created some confusion among audiences as it became unclear whether the shows would be returning on the date announced in the promos or the date teased on Twitter. NBC was slow to confirm which of the two dates was accurate, but the network’s latest scheduling update seems to have confirmed which of the two dates is correct — and it’s not the news fans were hoping for.

When is the next new episode of Chicago Fire and the One Chicago shows?

Although it was originally announced that new episodes of Chicago Fire and the One Chicago dramas would drop on Wednesday, Feb. 8, NBC has since confirmed that it will instead be airing reruns on Feb. 8. The One Chicago shows will then return with new episodes on Wednesday, Feb. 15, aka the date the One Chicago social accounts originally referenced following the Jan. 18 episodes.

It’s unclear why NBC decided to extend the One Chicago franchise’s hiatus by a week, but the good news is that we don’t anticipate the date changing again. The One Chicago social accounts have since added further messaging that promotes the shows’ returns on Feb. 15 and there have been no indications of the shows’ latest break running beyond then.
