Chicago PD: Is Halstead going to get killed off in season 10?
Things have changed for Jay Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer). The Chicago PD character entered season 10 as a married man and veteran cop, but now he’s quit the force, moved to Central America and effectively crippled his marriage to Upton (Tracy Spiridakos).
It’s all happened in such a staggeringly small amount of time that some fans are still processing it. When it was revealed that Halstead extended his stay in Central America without telling Upton, it felt like he really was putting an end to their marriage.
What’s next for the character? Where else can the writers go with him in season 10?
Is Halstead going to die on Chicago PD?
Based on the comments made by PD showrunner Gwen Sigan, Halstead will not be making an appearance in season 10. He will remain offscreen, despite the fact that the actor who plays him, Soffer, will be on set to direct an episode.
Because Halstead can’t be brought back (at least, for the time being), it limits what the writers are able to do with him. They can either sacrifice Upton’s presence in an effort to preserve their happy marriage, or they can dissolve the marriage and keep Upton in the picture. It seems as though the choice has been the latter.

Because Halstead seems to be off the table in terms of returning characters, it begs the question as to whether he will eventually be killed off. He is, after all, volunteering to break up drug cartels on a daily basis, which puts in some presumably life-threatening situations. If Upton were to get word that he had been shot and killed, or even captured, it would not be a stretch.
Historically, Halstead has been a good romantic partner to Upton, so it’s been tough to see this newfound callousness surface now that he is out of the country. It feels like its all gearing towards a tragic outcome for the character, but we hope to be proven wrong by the rest of the season.
