There’s been lots attention placed on the impending departure of Severide (Taylor Kinney), and understandably so. The character is a major part of Chicago Fire, and the show will feel a bit off being without him for the first time (albeit briefly).

An interesting facet of this departure, though, is the impact it will have on Severide’s wife, Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo). She will, presumably, have to make due without him for a long period of time, which is a neat reversal of the situation she went through when she traveled in season 10.

How will this manifest for Kidd? Let’s do some investigating.

Will Severide and Kidd break up on Chicago Fire?

There will definitely be some venting to Brett (Kara Killmer) and some of the 51 veterans about Kidd missing her husband, but she’s someone who prefers to keep her emotions to herself. With the exception of Severide, she plays most things close to the chest.

This doesn’t extend, however, to Sam Carver (Jake Lockett). Despite the frigid dynamic they had at the start of season 11, the two characters have bonded and actually gotten quite close. Kidd went to bat for Carver when he ran into some legal trouble, and she also made sure that he was out of harm’s way (as much as possible, at least) when the bomb they tried to disarm went off.

The bond between Kidd and Carver became even more prominent post-blast, when the latter opened up about his childhood and the trauma he suffered at the hands of his brother. It was an important exchange for the firefighters, as Kidd was coming to grips with the trauma of having undergone the aforementioned blast.

We could definitely see this grow stronger over the course of season 11, especially with Kidd lonely and looking for a means of distraction while Severide is gone. While we don’t think it will turn romantic, as some pot-stirring fans have suggested, we do think Kidd will bounce off Carver much in the way Severide did with Wendy Seager (Andy Allo) when he was feeling lonely.
