One Chicago is known for its wide array of characters. Between its three titles, there are enough fun characters to power a dozen shows. That being said, sometimes the point of a given character is to irk fans and make life harder for the heroes.

We understand it’s a crucial part of the narrative for Med, Fire, and PD respectively, but we still feel like some characters have overstayed their welcome heading into the New Year. Here’s a rundown of the One Chicago characters we wouldn’t mind seeing less of in 2023.

Chicago Fire season 11

Is Emma Jacobs leaving Chicago Fire in 2023?

Emma Jacobs (Caitlin Carver) was a worthy adversary during Chicago Fire season 10. She was ambitious and cutthroat, and her desire to rise up the ranks added tension to the already strong romance between Violet (Hanako Greensmith) and Hawkins (Jimmy Nicholas).

Jacobs is back in the mix for season 11, and while it was an unexpected surprise, the suggestion that she will continue to stick around as a sort of adversary for Violet feels like a dead end. We get why Violet would have a bone to pick with her, but it’ll take some nifty writing to get the Jacobs storyline out from under the shadow of the Hawkins tragedy. Time will tell if they pull it off.

Is Jack Dayton leaving Chicago Med in 2023?

Jack Dayton (Sasha Roiz) was introduced under unique circumstances, and has since risen to become one of the most notable threats that Gaffney Medical Center has ever had. He’s not an outright villain, but his desire to strong arm the staff into accepting his method of AI-assisted treatment feels as though its not putting the patients first.

Because of this, Dayton is more fun as a concept than an actual character. He doesn’t have much time to develop a character outside of barking orders or arguing with people like Marcel (Dominic Rains), which makes it feel as though the writing team isn’t committed to making him part of Chicago Med long-term.

Is Sean O’Neal leaving Chicago Fire in 2023?

Let’s get this straight: Sean O’Neal (Jefferson White) has been a great character so far. He is one of the most chilling villains that Chicago PD has had in a long time, and his scenes with Upton (Tracy Spiridakos) are consistently tense. Our concern is more a matter of overuse.

The current setup has Sean as a sort of Hannibal Lecter, giving clues to Upton and preying upon her frustrations as he rots in a jail cell. It runs the risk of altering the format of the show, and we have a hard time seeing this Silence of the Lambs scenario running much longer. We think the sooner Sean exits, the more fondly he will be remembered.
