Chicago Fire will be taking some interesting directions in the weeks to come. The show will be back on February 15, and barring a few minor plot details, all we know is that Severide (Taylor Kinney) will be stepping away.

It’s not yet clear how the character will be written out of the show, or how long the writing out will last, but it will a challenge for both the writing team and the rest of the cast, as this will be the first time the show has been without Severide.

In an effort to quell the brief absence, Fire will be adding a new character.

Who is the new character on Chicago Fire 2023?

The character, while unnamed, was reported on by the Sturgis Journal. The character will be a faculty manager who will factor into the plot of the February 15 episode, and she will be played by actress Corinne Gahan.

Gohan, who has previously appeared in shows like The Maurice Show and Warriors of the World, is a Chicago native who nearly missed her 2022 audition due to a health scare.

"“I was very sick with COVID the week I got the audition”, she told the publication. “And my voice probably didn’t even sound the same — I was coughing in between takes. I almost didn’t do it because I didn’t feel well and the chances of getting role can be sometimes really slim.”"

Fortunately, all worked out and she landed a prime role in the first Chicago Fire episode of the month. It’s unclear how she will factor into the plot, but given the crucial role that the episode will play in setting up Severide’s eventual departure, we will have our eyes glued to the screen.

The synopsis for the episode, titled “The Man of the Moment”, is as follows:

"“Firehouse 51 helps Herrmann put on a school fundraiser; Carver’s troubled brother comes to town; a grateful citizen is determined to thank Brett and Severide for saving his life.”"
