3 One Chicago characters most likely to get killed in 2023

One Chicago has made a killing (pun intended) out of shocking its viewers. Season after season, the writers for each show has managed to pull out a last-minute reveal or drop a character into a suddenly deadly situation with masterful timing.

With that in mind, nearly a decade with Chicago Med, Fire, and PD has taught us a thing or two. We don’t know who’s going to kick the bucket in 2023, but we can be fairly confident that there will be at least a couple who do.

Here are our best guesses for who will get killed on One Chicago in 2023.

Will Jay Halstead get killed on Chicago PD?

Jay Halstead poses a tricky situation for PD writers. On one hand, he’s a beloved character who’s married to another beloved character (who’s still on the show). On the other hand, all signs point to the character not coming back anytime soon, and continuing to fight cartels in Central America.

Killing Halstead off might be the easiest way for the writers to make sense of his indefinite absence. The fact that Jesse Lee Soffer, the actor who plays Halstead, is still in the mix as a director, will continue to fuel rumors that he’ll return, so we can definitely see a world where Halstead gets the axe. Hopefully we’re wrong.

Will Emma Jacobs get killed on Chicago Fire?

Emma Jacobs (Caitlin Carver) is not a character we expected to see back in season 11. She is a formidable enemy for the 51 gang, especially now that she has an increased amount of power to wield, but it does feel like Jacobs’ reign of terror will be short-lived.

Her dynamic with Violet (Hanako Greensmith) and the rest of the gang is so volatile, we’d be surprised to see it play out over multiple seasons. It feels like the writers are instead setting the character up for another villainous ploy come the end of the season. A ploy that might just claim her life. Given how she treated the deceased Hawkins (Jimmy Nicholas), we wouldn’t be too broken up.

Will Sean O’Neal get killed on Chicago PD?

Sean O’Neal (Jefferson White) is another case of a character who’s continued presence would do damage to his effectiveness. He’s a chilling foil for Upton (Tracy Spiridakos), but he can only do so much behind bars before he starts to feel like a Hannibal Lecter-type mastermind (which he is not).

We anticipate Sean making a jailbreak, and maybe even engaging in a cat-and-mouse game with Upton that would put a nice, exciting bow on their season-long arc. It could always be stretched out longer, but the show then runs the risk of sidelining other PD characters for more time.
