Chicago Fire alum Jeff Hephner joins new Netflix drama
Chicago Fire, and the One Chicago franchise in general, has one of the richest ensemble casts in TV. It’s been home to dozens and dozens of talented performers, whether they appear for a lone episode or have been part of the franchise for a decade.
Jeff Hephner is one such example. The actor who played Jeff Clarke for several seasons has now joined the cast of the upcoming Netflix series Eric. Hephner will appear alongside Oscar nominee and Marvel superstar Benedict Cumberbatch, as well as Gaby Hoffman, McKinley Belcher III, Dan Fogler and Phoebe Nicholls.
What happened to Jeff Clarke on Chicago Fire?
Deadline reports that Eric will be about Vincent Anderson (Cumberbatch), a puppeteer on a kids show who succumbs to depression when his son goes missing, and who finds solace with the monster under his son’s bed. The monster’s name? Eric, of course.
It sounds like an ambitious show, blending drama, fantasy, and black comedy, and the cast is more than capable of delivering the goods. As Hephner has shown in the past, he’s more than capable of encapsulating a wide range of emotions.

Range is what made Hephner’s time on One Chicago so memorable. He was introduced as Jeff Clarke during the second season of Chicago Fire, and appeared in roughly twenty episodes over the next few years. He was last spotted near a firehouse in season five, but it turns out that there was more to the character than meets the eye.
Clarke became a recurring character on Chicago Med in its first season. It turns out that he had left firefighting after a severe back injury, and decided to enter the medical field. He’s introduced as a fourth-year medical student, and even has a romance with Dr. Natalie Manning (Torrey DeVitto), but he promptly disappears from the show in its second season.
Hephner is currently represented by Gersh and Industry Entertainment.
