Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney). The man of the season. Not because he’s been crucial to the formation of Chicago Fire‘s big storylines in season 11. That’s always the case, frankly. He’s been the focus of so many fans because he’ll be leaving the show pretty soon, and we don’t know when he’ll be back.

Fire has a long history of keeping fans on their toes, and pulling out narrative twists that we could have never seen coming. The departure of Casey (Jesse Spencer), or the sudden death of Hawkins (Jimmy Nicholas), come to mind as examples.

Will the show pull out a similar twist with Severide? Would they dare to kill him off in 2023?

Who dies in Chicago Fire season 11?

This is definitely a devil’s advocate scenario. It would be absolute chaos if the writers decided to kill one of, if not the most beloved of the original Chicago Fire cast. Severide is part of the show’s DNA, and so undoing that with the snap of a finger would definitely rub some fans the wrong way.

That being said, let’s examine the scenario. Kinney has not specified how long he plans to be gone from the show, or how long the personal matter he’s tending to will take to resolve. We don’t even know if it’s a good personal matter or a bad one (we sincerely hope its the former).

While all signs point to Kinney coming back, there is a slight possibility that he won’t, in which case the writing team will have to figure out what to do with his character. The idea of Severide leaving the city and his wife, Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo), seems wildly off brand, so that wouldn’t be an ideal fix.

Besides, Chicago PD is already doing something similar with Jay Halstead, after it was announced that the actor who plays him, Jesse Lee Soffer, would be leaving the show. It’s worked to an extent but it’s also divided fans, with some feeling that the character is being done a disservice.

While death is on the table for every Chicago Fire character, we remain confident that Severide will not die in season 11, or any other season for that matter. If there’s a chance for the character to come back at some point down the line, the writers and showrunners will surely take it.
