The Severide saga is getting more intense with each new episode. We know the character will be leaving, but we don’t know why or when! He continues to play a large role in Chicago Fire, but it’s only a matter of time before the show introduces the reason why he has to leave.

At least, for a while. All signs point to Severide’s absence being a temporary one. The episode “The Man of the Moment” featured him throughout, and failed to suggest any arcs that would drive him away from the 51.

NBC has released the promo photos for the next episode, set for released on Wednesday, Feb. 22, and it confirms/reveals quite a few things about our favorite firefighter!

For one, the photos confirm that Severide is going to be present for yet another episode. This is great news, as we’ll frankly take him in as many additional episodes as we can. The synopsis for the episode suggests that the character will once again be front-and-center, as there is a focus on an arson investigation. The synopsis for “Run Like Hell” reads as follows:

"An annoying floater takes a romantic interest in Violet; Ritter catches a local politician in a compromising position; Mouch and Severide help Trudy with an arson investigation."

The other bombshell that was revealed in the promo photos (and the synopsis) is that Severide will be staging his own One Chicago crossover by working with PD‘s Trudy Platt (Amy Morton).

These two have interacted and been in each other’s orbit over the years, especially when taking into account that Platt is married to the 51’s very own Mouch (Christian Stolte), but this will be a first in terms of them leading an investigation.

The crossover is exciting, but not unexpected. The man who plays Severide, Taylor Kinney, talked about One Chicago actors that he loves to work with, and he singled out Morton and her laconic performance as Platt. He felt that she and Severide would have a great dynamic.

“One of the first interactions that Severide had with Platt was, he was at the police station, and she said if they went out, she’d break him like a stick”, he told NBC. “I would like to see what that would look like.”

Will Severide’s joint investigation with Platt be the jumpstart for his departure? Too early to tell, but it will definitely provide some fun viewing in the meantime.
