9 fun facts about Chicago Fire star Jesse Spencer (you might be surprised to learn)
By Cody Schultz
What did Jesse Spencer do before Chicago Fire?
Before landing the role of Matthew Casey on Chicago Fire, Jesse Spencer made his US television debut in the role of Dr. Robert Chase in the Hugh Laurie-led medical drama House. Spencer appeared in all eight series of the show, which was his longest-tenured US role before Chicago Fire. Had House continued for another season, it’s likely Matthew Casey would have been played by an entirely different actor as Spencer landed the role the same year House signed off the air.
Can Jesse Spencer sing?
One thing that might be surprising to learn about Jesse Spencer is that can not only sing but was actually a member of the Band from TV, a charity cover band whose members are all actors from American television series. In addition to Spencer, the band also included Hugh Laurie, Bob Guiney, Greg Grunberg, James Denton, and Scott Grimes. Check out a video of Spencer singing with his bandmates here. Spencer also showed off his pipes in the classic rom-com Uptown Girls, starring as a musician in the film.
Does Jesse Spencer play any instruments?
Not only does Jesse Spencer sing, but he also plays several instruments! Spencer’s go-to instrument is the violin, which he is said to have played since he was a kid, but he also plays the guitar, bass, mandolin, ukulele, and piano as well.
