Chicago Fire boasts a terrific ensemble. No matter where you look or who you’re following, there’s a compelling story being told. Ritter (Daniel Kyri) is a character who often plays a supporting role in other people’s stories, but a recent episode showed that he may be dealing with an intriguing dilemma of his own.

Ritter and the rest of the 51 put out a building fire, but when he went to canvas the area, he found a man and woman engaging in lewd behavior in a closet. While embarrassing, it wasn’t a crime. At least, it didn’t start out as one…

Is Ritter in trouble on Chicago Fire?

The man who was caught is named Don Ramsey, and it turns out that the woman he was fooling around with was not his wife. He doesn’t want it to get out that he was cheating, so he goes as far as to threaten Ritter: “I’m not leaving ’cause I was never here. If you tell anyone otherwise, you’ll regret it.”

Ritter is understandably shaken by the interaction, and a cursory investigation into Ramsey shows that he’s actually the Chicago city treasurer. He decides to play ball, and leave Ramsey’s name out of his initial report, but when it’s discovered that he mentioned seeing an “unidentified adult male”, Ramsey showed back up.

He confronts Ritter towards the end of the episode and threatens him a second time! He tells the firefighter than his identity better remain hidden, or he will make sure that things go bad for him:

“If anyone finds out I was the unidentified man, I will ruin you, your Lieutenant, and this whole firehouse. Do you understand?”

It’s a chilling statement, and one that couldn’t have made to a nicer guy. While Chicago Fire is all for having interesting one-off characters, it feels like Ramsey is going to be coming back once in a while to shake things up and pose as sort of a nemesis for Ritter.

The actor who plays Ramsey, David Lee, may be familiar to movie fans. He’s appeared in several huge films over the years, including Blood Diamond (2006), Get Smart (2008), and Black Panther (2018). He’s best known for playing villains in these films, and his intense performance on Fire proves that he’s utterly intimidating. We’re curious to see what comes of him.
