Kim Burgess has made a breakthrough. The character has been struggling through the last few seasons of Chicago PD, but has been quiet about it for fear of not being able to carry on as a cop. The latest episode, however, saw her open up and confront her demons head on.

Burgess has starting seeing a therapist, and despite voicing concerns at first, the decision seems as though it will allow for a new chapter of her life to begin. Chief among the people in this new chapter is Adam Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger).

Are Burgess and Ruzek dating in Chicago PD season 10?

Marina Squerciati, who plays Burgess, discussed the character’s development during a recent interview with NBC. She remained vague about overarching storylines, but suggested that her breakthrough will lead to a newfound appreciation for her ex-boyfriend Ruzek.

"“I think she finally realizes that she’s been pushing Adam away since the incident when she was sho”, the actress noted. She thought she’d dealt with it, the trauma, but she’s been closing herself off to Adam, inadvertently, so as not to feel anything. Pain, love, desire.”"

This makes sense, given how tense things got between Burgess and Ruzek during the kidnapping of the former’s daughter, Makayla (Ramona Edith Williams). They handled things very differently, and it led to some distance between them.

The big bombshell of the interview, however, came when Squerciati admitted that her character still loves Ruzek despite all of their struggles. “She loves him and wants to open up to him, so hopefully this will lead her towards that”, she added.

It’s both surprising and encouraging to hear that the characters will be working towards a healthier and closer relationship for the rest of season 10. If they are going to make things work between them, whether on a romantic or strictly parental level, then this difficult step was going to be inevitable. We look forward to watching both of them grow.
