Brian Tee stages surprise return to Chicago Med (but there’s a catch)

Ethan Choi has always been a fan-favorite character on One Chicago’s medical drama Chicago Med. As a former Navy officer turned emergency room physician, Ethan brings a unique blend of toughness, intelligence, and compassion to his work. His dedication to his patients and his colleagues earned him a loyal following among viewers of the show. As an original character, Ethan had long been a key part of the show’s central storylines right up until his departure from the show in season 8.
In “This Could Be The Start of Something New,” Ethan got a rare happy ending on the show as part of an exit storyline introduced to accommodate Brian Tee’s departure from the show. We got to see Ethan and April get married before heading off into the sunset via an ending that left the door wide open for his return.
It’s only been a few episodes since Brian Tee officially turned in his scrubs and stepped away from Chicago Med, but it seems Tee is already heading back to the Windy City… just not in the way fans might be expecting.
Is Brian Tee coming back to Chicago Med?
Brian Tee is heading back to Chicago Med, just not as Ethan Choi. Tee recently returned to the set of NBC’s hit medical drama, but not to reprise his role on the show. Instead, Tee is making his way back to the show to step in as a director!
“That’s a wrap… different role, same show,” Tee wrote in a recent Instagram post. “Was an honor and privilege to work with all of you in front and now behind the camera. Much love to the cast and especially the crew for making this such an incredible experience.”

Tee was all smiles as he stepped back on the set in a directing role appearing alongside his former costars in a series of photos. The photos also help to provide us with insights into what episode Tee will be directing!
In one show, Tee is seen holding a clapperboard which indicates the episode he’s directing is episode 17. It’s not year clear when the episode will be airing, but it’s looking likely the episode will air on Wednesday, March 29.
