Chicago Fire has always thrived on its characters. Regardless of who leaves, there’s also a host of newcomers to fill their spot and provide fans with riveting drama.

The departure of Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney) will definitely put this talent to the test, but we feel like there are a few obvious places that the show can shine a light in season 11.

Here’s a rundown of the character we’d like to see get more screen time before the end of the season.

What happened to Cindy Herrmann on Chicago Fire?

Admittedly, a tricky ask. Cindy Herrmann (Robyn Coffin) has been diagnosed with cancer and is currently undergoing chemotherapy as a result. She will be weakened significantly as a result of these treatments, but conversely, Cindy has been getting more screen time than ever.

She’s a dramatic anchor to the show in its current form, especially since we’ve known her for so long, and she’s bringing out a side of Herrmann (David Eigenberg) that we rarely get a chance to see on the job. We hope to get more Cindy-based storylines for the rest of season 11.

What happened to Cruz on Chicago Fire?

Cruz (Joe Minoso) is always around. He recently went through the process of adopting a son, so it makes sense why the Fire writers have cooled off on his character and largely made a supporting player for the last few episodes.

With Severide gone, though, someone is going to have to step up and lead the team. Cruz is the most obvious choice, given his mixture of seniority and his solid reputation with everyone in the 51. Beefing up Cruz’s screen time seems like an easy way to keep fans satisfied while Severide is gone.

What happened to Wendy Seager on Chicago Fire?

Wendy Seager (Andy Allo) made a surprise return in a recent episode. The return itself wasn’t so much the surprise, it was the fact that she was hooking up with Sam Carver (Jake Lockett) that turned the heads of viewers.

Seager has always been a character who has brought out different sides of Severide, so getting a chance to see her on her own, and have a character bring out different sides of her, seems like a particularly smart play. We’re curious to learn more about her character moving forward.
