One Chicago is one of the most successful TV franchises of the last decade. Very few franchises can lay claim to having three long-running shows, let alone dominate a whole night of network TV. This long-running success is why the lack of a renewal has been so surprising.

NBC has not yet renewed Chicago Med, Chicago Fire, and Chicago PD, despite all three shows pulling in very strong ratings and all nearing (or surpassing) the ten-season mark. The last time the network renewed them, it was for multi-season contracts, so the assumption would be that a similar renewal would occur this time.

Is Chicago Fire getting renewed in 2023?

What makes the lack of renewal so odd is how late its gotten into each of the One Chicago seasons without them being picked up. They are all on the back end of their respective seasons, with the finale in sight, and yet NBC has not officially given future seasons the seal of approval.

Fortunately, we have an update on how the negotiations are going. Deadline released lots of info on the slate of shows that are due for renewal, and it listed the One Chicago franchise right near the top. Apparently, negotiations are already underway for all three shows to be given extension deals, and the goal is to secure “multi-season” renewals once again.

This is a very encouraging update for One Chicago fans. Very few franchises have maintained the consistency of these three shows, and talks of a multi-season deal means that fans won’t have to contend with the stress of wondering if Med, Fire, or PD will be cancelled for at least a few more years.

The fourth piece in the Dick Wolf Productions puzzle is Law & Order: SVU, which has been on the air for over two decades and takes place in the same universe as One Chicago. SVU is another big priority for the network, and negotiations for that show suggest that a similar multi-season deal is going to be on the table. This means we may even get future One Chicago/Law & Order crossover events in the future.
