Cast turnovers are not uncommon on long-running television shows, and Chicago Fire is no exception. Over its many seasons, the show has seen its fair share of cast changes, with actors coming and going for various reasons.

Some departures have been due to creative decisions made by the writers, while others have been the result of personal reasons, such as actors wanting to step away from the show in order to pursue other projects or spend more time with family. While these changes can be difficult for fans to adjust to, they are often necessary for the show to remain fresh and relevant. Moreover, new cast members bring new perspectives and storylines, which can help keep the show interesting and engaging for viewers.

However, that doesn’t mean when a character leaves the show, they aren’t incredibly missed by fans. In fact, it’s the complete opposite.

Fortunately, the writers have found ways to bring certain characters back from time to time via fun one-off appearances and provide fans with the chance to catch up with characters they love. We’ve seen a handful of One Chicago stars return for guest appearances and arcs after their original exits, but there are still a handful of characters who are long overdue for a return.

Chicago Fire needs to bring back Peter Mills (according to AI)

Using the AI platform ChatGPT, we asked AI which former Chicago Fire character needs to come back to the show and the answer was one that we can’t say we were surprised by. There are a lot of amazing characters who fans would love to see return to Chicago Fire, but according to AI the one character who is most deserving of a comeback is none other than Peter Mills!

So just why should Mills come back? Here’s what AI had to say in making its decision:

"We need Peter Mills back on the show! He was one of the original members of Firehouse 51 and brought a unique dynamic to the team with his background as a chef and his love for cooking. Plus, he had great chemistry with the other characters, especially with Dawson.Sure, we’ve had some amazing characters come and go over the years, but there was just something special about Mills. He was always willing to lend a helping hand, even when it meant going above and beyond the call of duty. And let’s not forget his heroic actions during the big gas leak explosion in season two.He was a beloved character and his return would be a great way to honor the show’s history while also injecting some fresh energy into the current storylines. Plus, who wouldn’t want to see him whipping up some delicious meals for the crew again?"

Honestly, we completely agree with AI’s pick as there is absolutely no denying that it’s been far too long since we’ve seen Charlie Barnett back in the Windy City as Peter Mills! When you consider how much of a large role Mills had in the early seasons of the show, it’s actually a bit surprising the writers haven’t found a way to pull off a return from Barnett — even if just for a cameo.

Given Mills is very much alive and well in the One Chicago universe, the writers wouldn’t need to jump through any hoops to find a way to bring him back. They could literally just have him move back to Chicago or be passing through and drop by Molly’s to catch up with his former 51 family.

We’ve seen other long-running shows find ways to bring back former characters for guest appearances and even as recurring or series regulars. Take Grey’s Anatomy for example, which has brought back many former cast members over the years via storylines that have helped audiences catch up with and see more of the characters they know and love. It’s time Chicago Fire tried to take a page out of its competitors’ book and find a way to get Charlie Barnette back as Peter Mills!
