Firefighting dramas are all the rage on network television. The combination of drama, suspense, and action that can occur with firefighters is an undeniably good basis for a show, and Chicago Fire helped to usher in this template a decade go.

Now, the creative behind Chicago Fire has decided to launch a new show! Dick Wolf Productions has confirmed that it will be launching a docuseries called LA Fire & Rescue, which will provide “unprecedented access to the inner workings of the Los Angeles County Fire Department.”

Is there a new firefighting show in 2023?

LA Fire & Rescue will another collaboration between Dick Wolf Productions and NBC, and will premiere on Wednesday, June 21, which is ironically the day of the week associated with the One Chicago lineup.

NBC issued a full synopsis of the show, highlighting not only the death-defying situations that the LA firefighters are put in on a regular basis, but the empathy they’re able to bring to the victims.

“The series documents real calls and real drama while giving faces to the passionate fire firefighters who risk their lives in the name of service,” the synopsis adds. “These real-life heroes and their compelling stories are told alongside the unpredictable dangers they face on the front lines of life and death.”

Given that its based on real-life situations and people, it’s safe to say that it will not be part of the One Chicago universe. There’s also the fact that LA Fire & Rescue is set in Los Angeles, instead of the Windy City. Still, fans of Chicago Fire will no doubt want to check out this new show, given the similar creative team and the shared reverence it has for people on the job.

It’s also encouraging that Dick Wolf Productions is continuing to launch new shows with NBC, given that they are currently negotiating multi-season renewal deals for each of the One Chicago shows. This is yet another sign that they are going to reach an agreement fairly soon.
