LA Fire & Rescue is the hottest new firefighting show on TV. Well, it will be. The show will premiere Wednesday, June 21 on NBC, and explore the lives of firefighters and emergency responders in Southern California.

The show also has the distinction of being produced by Dick Wolf Productions, which has a sterling track record with long-running dramas, including our beloved Chicago Fire. Given that so many of the Dick Wolf Productions titles are set in the same universe, however, there are some fans who are wondering if LA Fire & Rescue will follow suit?

Is LA Fire & Rescue part of the One Chicago universe?

Will we see characters between the two shows interact or crossover into each other’s respective calls? Unfortunately, the answer is no. While the two have similar themes and a lot of personnel overlap, the new NBC show will be a documentary series, which means it will focus on real-life firefighters and incidents.

The press release for LA Fire & Rescue makes it clear how it differs from dramatized fare like Chicago Fire:

"“The series documents real calls and real drama while giving faces to the passionate fire firefighters who risk their lives in the name of service. These real-life heroes and their compelling stories are told alongside the unpredictable dangers they face on the front lines of life and death.”"

While it would be exciting to see additional characters and storylines within the One Chicago universe, it will be equally entertaining to see the lives of real-life people who risk bodily harm on a regular basis to save others.

Given that Dick Wolf Productions has a long history of thrilling us with its kinetic style, its safe to assume that LA Fire & Rescue will be the perfect spot-filler while fans await the next season of Chicago Fire.
