Jesse Spencer has broken his silence. The actor has been confirmed to return to Chicago Fire for several weeks, but he finally opened up about his return and what we can expect to happen to his character, Casey, when the episode airs on April 12.

The biggest question going into his return, of course, is how long he will be present on the show. Spencer returned for a lengthy cameo in the season 10 finale, and has also appeared via phone call in another episode, so it’s clear that he remains tight with the show’s producers.

Is Casey returning to Chicago Fire for good?

The thing is, though, Casey’s reason for leaving the 51 made it seem as though the character would be living in Oregon for a couple of years at least. It hasn’t been very long since he packed up and left, so the idea of seeing him back so soon has fans pondering whether the show is going to make him a full-time cast member again.

Sure enough, Spencer had to address the full-time rumors during a recent interview with Deadline. While he was careful not to step on any spoilers, the actor did say that he was open to the idea and that he loves playing the character whenever he gets the chance.

“The potential to come back would be awesome,” Spencer stated. “I’m always open to that but you know, the ball isn’t really in my court. I always told Derek Haas that if there were episodes that he thought would be appropriate for me to come back, then I’m totally open to that because I want to see the old gang and I love working there.”

When pressed for an answer on the full-time angle, however, Spencer pleaded the fifth. “I cannot… answer that question,” he asserted. “In terms of me coming back full-time or something, I have no idea.”

It’s always difficult to gage whether an actor is genuinely unsure about the current state of their character or if they are keeping things under wraps for the sake of the show’s unpredictability.

Regardless of whether Spencer is back for good, it’ll be great to see him back and interacting with the rest of the cast.
