Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo) is a workaholic. Few characters on Chicago Fire are more invested in what they do for a living, and how that her husband Severide (Taylor Kinney) is on leave, she has turned to work as a means of distraction.

The character has made it clear that she misses Severide, and revealed that she traveled to go see Severide while he’s been taking his arson investigation course. Seems like a harmless piece of info, right? Well, this trip has led several fans to theorize that Kidd may actually be pregnant, and that she hasn’t yet told Severide the news.

Is Kidd going to get pregnant on Chicago Fire?

It’s a big conclusion to jump to, but there are some interesting bits to support it. For one, Kidd’s conversation with Cruz (Joe Minoso) seemed as though it was alluding to something more than what was on the surface. Cruz talked about his recent struggles, and how he’s been stressed by having to juggle two kids with his professional duties.

Kidd then said: “I don’t have to deal with the kids part…yet.” Now it could just be a passing remark, but the delivery makes it seem as though motherhood has been weighing on her mind more than usual. Fans have thrown out the possibility that this comment could be a hint towards her being pregnant, which would likely be confirmed by the season 11 finale (if true).

Kids have been a topic that Kidd and Severide have limited discussions about. When Kidd was tasked with watching a runaway teenager earlier in season 11, her maternal instincts kicked in, and Severide was noticeably indifferent towards the teen. The different approaches were clearly meant to illustrate that they were on different pages when it came to starting a family.

The length of Severide’s absence is still unknown, and a pregnancy would definitely be a dramatic hook to bring him back to the Windy City. It would also bring them closer together, after a period in which Kidd has clearly felt emotionally distant.

All this is conjecture, of course, but given the conversation between Kidd and Cruz, it is a possibility worth keeping in mind as we head towards the home stretch of season 11.
