We’re still waiting on a big crossover. It’s been a few years since we’ve gotten to see Chicago Fire, Med and PD join forces for a focused storyline, and its due to a myriad of offscreen and scheduling issues.
That said, Chicago Fire and PD seem to be building storylines in a similar direction. It’s been subtle, but the more information that gets revealed, the more it seems likely that we will get a crossover between main characters from both shows.
Will there be a One Chicago crossover in 2023?
During interview for the his Chicago Fire return, Jesse Spencer explained that his character Casey would be focusing on a specific goal. Casey is working with the Portland Department of Homeland Security task force to squash out domestic terrorist attacks. He returned because he discovered that Chicago was one of the targeted cities, and knew that he could do what was necessary to prevent any possible attacks.
The whole storyline involving domestic terrorism sounds eerily similar to that of the current case on Chicago PD. Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger) is currently undercover with a group who are plotting to carry out similar acts, so it would make sense that Casey and Ruzek would eventually cross paths.

This would be a clever and exciting way to give fans a crossover event, even if it’s only between two of the three One Chicago shows. Casey will be involved in Fire in a limited capacity, but it’s no stretch to assume that he would be able to pull strings and help the IU out, especially if Ruzek is put in danger.
It would be great to see these two guys interact, or at least bring about interactions between the rest of their respective casts. Given that there are only a handful of episodes left in both shows (the finales for all three One Chicago shows will air May 24), it makes sense that the plot to stop domestic terrorism will be resolved before the shows go on hiatus.
